Leadership

Developing character and leadership is a key element of our balanced education and our students’ sense of wellbeing and belonging.

We view leadership as an opportunity to serve others. Our inclusive leadership culture connects every student and supports them to step up and serve their school and wider community from an early age.

The character of our students, especially our senior role models, is what makes the tone and flavour of our school environment so special. A wide range of formal and informal leadership opportunities are woven into the fabric of our school climate, empowering every student to get involved and explore their individual leadership capacity, to find their place and purpose and set themselves up for success post school.

Leadership at Central Coast Grammar

Our expansive cocurricular program creates leadership opportunities as captains of different sports and performing arts activities, as well as individual representative teams, squads and ensembles.

International community service action includes an outreach connection and an annual humanitarian tour to Cambodia which has raised funds to build over 130 houses in its ten year history. 

From Year 2 students can learn about student voice and student action on the Student Representative Council, introducing activities and facilities for their peers and supporting projects in the wider community. 20 hours of student driven community service becomes compulsory in Year 9. Our inclusive Prefect body offers opportunities for all who have demonstrated the commitment to serve by completing the Strive to Lead Diploma in the Senior College which includes completing a community service project in Year 10.

Junior Leadership
  • Years 2 to 6 Student Representative Council
  • Years 3 to 6 class captains elected each term
  • Four Houses elect one male and one female Junior House and Junior Vice Captain each semester, creating thirty-two Year 6 leadership positions in the Junior School
  • Year 6 buddies spend time with new Kindergarten students
  • Captains lead cocurricular sport and performing arts squads
Senior Leadership
  • Years 7 to 9 Student Representative Council
  • Students from Years 9 to 12 can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
  • 20 hours compulsory Community Service in Years 9 and 10. Examples include assisting at RDA (Riding for Disabled), the Sunday lunches program at Gosford Uniting Church, Surf Life Saving or assisting at an aged care facility
  • Strive to Lead Leadership Diploma workshops and fortnightly seminar program in Year 10 and Leadership Days for Years 10 and 11
  • Inclusive, elected Prefect body. Leadership roles include Head Boy and Head Girl, House Captains and Cocurricular Captains
  • Older students mentor younger ones in House Families and Year 10 students present their community service projects to their House Family to model leadership and service for younger students
  • Mentoring younger cocurricular sport, drama, dance, public speaking teams
  • Service to school can include: assisting at junior sport carnivals and house celebration day, touring prospective parents around the school, acting as master of ceremonies at school assemblies, assisting at parent teacher evenings and other functions, helping junior students in the infants playground, assisting at the pedestrian crossing, coaching younger sport, drama, dance and public speaking and debating squads
Strive to Lead Leadership Diploma

The diploma is an opportunity to learn leadership skills through workshops, a fortnightly seminar program and service to others and is of huge benefit for those seeking leadership roles in the community and in the future.

To complete the diploma students must have designed and delivered a community service project in Year 10 and presented it to their House Family, participated in all House Carnivals, led a House Family activity, be enrolled in a school cocurricular activity, been involved in some form of mentoring at school, have completed an in school service activity and have completed 20 hours of sustained community service over a minimum period of three months. It’s a robust diploma requiring a high standard of commitment.
